Project Description

Developed geotechnical investigation, slope stability assessment and static and seismic stability evaluation for a 38-acre coal ash impoundment closure project.   Project activities included review of post-construction stormwater and groundwater flow requirements, and evaluation of the final cover system stability. Developed a practical and thorough approach for evaluating ash basin closure plans that followed guidelines provided by the power company engineers and the Ohio EPA regulators.    Implemented innovative porewater pressure monitoring and vane shear testing methods that are being used by engineers and contractors across the United States.
